The Ladies Waterford 1920’s exits because of a commission by Miss Patricia Kelly owner of the shop in the photograph. It is from the Poole collection in the National Library of Ireland archive. Patricia’s hairdressing salon shop front is still in Waterford today, at 94 Meaghers Quay.
There is something charming about the stance of the three women, standing in front of their place of work. The window of the salon is full of hair products and different pomades. The blinds with the P for Patricia are a final touch. This must have been one of the smartest window displays on the Quays in Waterford. The three women are an advertisement for their business, beautiful waves in their hair echoing the style of the day.
The Poole Collection of photographs is made up, in the main, of portraits of Waterford people and images of Waterford life. The family firm of A.H. Poole operated as commercial photographers in Waterford during the years 1884-1954.
In conclusion, it is a testament to the National Library of Ireland that these photographs exist and in such great quality.
