The Gallery in Dunfanaghy Donegal was the inspiration of artist Frank Eggington. The attractive two-story stone building was built in the 1840s as the Fever Hospital for Dunfanaghy Workhouse. In 1968 “The Gallery” opened to honour the name of the artist. It has become a place to visit for arts crafts, and antiques.

Frank Egginton was a landscape painter born in Cheshire in 1908. Frank studies at the Newton Abbot College of Art. He finds work in an architect’s office. Here he is able to perfect his painting and drawing technique.

Eggington first visited Ireland in 1930 where he paints the magical landscape that surrounds him. He spends longer each year in Ireland. In 1936 in the Royal Scottish Academy Eggington exhibits the work, ‘The Calabber River, Co. Donegal’. He also travels to Iceland, Switzerland, and the USA. When Frank turns fifty, he begins to experiment with oils however watercolors were his preferred medium.
